The primary school years of education are an essential building block of the learning journey.

Teaching and Learning

We believe the learning journey is a partnership between students, parents and the School.

A broad and rich educational program caters to the needs of 21st century learners, with a focus on critical and creative thinking, collaboration and communication.

Our teachers are passionate about providing programs that support student growth across all areas. We inspire our girls to be engaged in their learning and strive to reach their potential by recognizing and enhancing their individual strengths.

The core subjects of English, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), Technologies, Mathematics and Science are taught by class teachers. Specialist teachers are timetabled to teach Art, Chess, Christian Education, Drama, Health and Physical Education, Information Literacy, Languages and Music.

The Junior School Features Science Laboratories, an Art Room and Library. Students also access specialist Music Rooms, Swimming Pool and Gymnasium.

All students engage in social and emotional learning as part of the Somerville House Pastoral Care and Wellbeing program.

Students are assessed in meaningful and authentic ways. Assessment of their knowledge and skills is ongoing, with feedback provided to students throughout the process to allow them to monitor their progress and continually strive to reach their potential.

Technology is an integral part of the teaching and learning program and is embedded across all areas of the curriculum. Individual iPads are used in Prep to Year 2 and laptops in Years 3 to 6.
