Summary

Middle School Curriculum

Courses are planned around Australian, statewide and school-based syllabi from which units of study have been developed.

The benefits of organizing the curriculum into modules are that:

students work towards clear learning goals within manageable timelines

students consult with their families and teachers in order to make choices every semester

students access curriculum choices beyond the Australian and state wide syllabi offerings

responses to changes in the workplace, particularly in the areas of technology are made more quickly, more easily and more effectively.

St James College Subject Offerings:

The units of work in the compulsory years have been developed from subjects which are supervised within seven facilities:

  • English / Languages
  • Arts / Humanities / Business
  • Mathematics
  • Religious Education
  • Science
  • Vocational Education / Trade Skills
  • HPE / Technologies

Throughout Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students are given the choice to select certain electives. Information on these web pages has been designed to provide information to help in planning a course of study for students in the junior years at St James College. It is hoped that students, in consultation with their families and teachers will make choices that ensure full participation and positive outcomes from their educational experiences. The electives are arranged to prepare students for subjects in the senior school.
