Summary

If you’re interested in becoming an aircraft maintenance engineer and building a career ensuring aircraft are ready for flight, then this is the course for you. The Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is offered in both the Mechanical (TB1) and Avionics (TB2) specialisations.

Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering - Avionics (TB2) 10600NAT

Avionics Diploma students study the avionics and electrical control systems within an aircraft as well as the repair and maintenance processes that apply to these systems. With every new type of aircraft launched, there are new avionics technologies such as fly-by-wire, fly-by-light and even artificial intelligence. This is a field of expertise which is dynamic and evolving.

Classes are 5 days per week - Monday to Thursday 7:30am to 2:30pm and Friday 7:30am to 12:30pm. Hours may differ slightly during practical training.

On successful completion of the EASA approved training courses, students receive:

  • an EASA (European) Certificate of Recognition
  • a GCAA (UAE) Certificate of Recognition (upon successful completion of GCAA Module 10, cost included in course fee. From April 2020 it will be an optional add-on for $300)
  • Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • Optional add-on – CASA exams $300

These Certificates are highly regarded by airlines and Maintenance Repair Organisations (MRO’s) all over the world.

After completing the approved course and receiving Certificates, students will need to show an additional two years’ work experience at an approved MRO to qualify for the EASA / GCAA Licence.

Job Prospects:

Graduating students with a further two years’ experience (minimum) can apply for their category licence. They would then be eligible for the following roles:

  • Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME/LAE)– Mechanical TB1.1 (Fixed wing gas turbine)
  • Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME/LAE) – Mechanical TB1.3 (Rotary wing gas turbine)
  • Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME/LAE) – Avionics TB2
  • Aircraft Mechanic, Maintenance
  • Maintenance Planner
  • Avionic Technician

University Pathways:

Successful Diploma graduates have the option of progressing towards a Bachelor Degree. Students may receive up to one-year (eight units) credit towards a three-year degree, allowing for a Bachelor Degree to be completed in just two years. Students can articulate to:

  • Southern Cross University – Aviation Maintenance Management
  • University of Southern Queensland – Aviation Management and Safety
  • Queensland University of Technology – Electrical and Aerospace

Entry criteria

Evidence of completion of Year 12 or equivalent, with a pass in Mathematics (at minimum Year 10 or equivalent).

Minimum of 17 years of age.

English Language Proficiency:

Academic IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) with no sub band score less than 5.0.
